The Internal Medicine Rapid Referral Clinic (IMRRC) is located in the Ambulatory Care Department on level 1 of the hospital (the basement). The Clinic provides patients, who meet specific criteria, to a timely appointment with a QCH Internal Medicine Physician. The goal of the IMRRC is to help patients remain at home, avoiding admission to hospital, and to facilitate timely discharges by securing appointments with the Internal Medicine Physician Team for assessment and follow-up.
Referral and appointments:
Referrals to the IMRRC come directly from the QCH Emergency Department or from the Department of Medicine, for patients who meet the establish inclusion/exclusion criteria. Outside referrals are not accepted.

If you experience worsening symptoms before your booked appointment, seek medical attention at your nearest Emergency Department. In case of emergency, call 911.

What to bring
- Health card.
- All of your current medications, including any vitamins and supplements (a list is fine, but it must be current and accurate).
- A list of Physicians/Health Care Provider names currently seen for your care.
- Your appointment may take 2-3 hours if you must wait for results. Please bring all that you need to safely pass the time; a book or tablet, charger, snack, medications, etc.)

Arrival to hospital:
- Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment and register at the Patient Registration desk in the Main Lobby of the hospital.
- After registration, you will be sent to the Internal Medicine Rapid Referral Clinic within the Ambulatory Care Clinic on Level 1.
What to expect
- Once you arrive to the Ambulatory Care Clinic and check in with the clerk, your nurse will be informed that you have arrived.
- The nurse will come to get you to complete any assessment/vital signs/testing that may have been order by the clinic physician.
- The clinic physician may need to wait until bloodwork results are complete before a final plan for your care can be decided upon; this can take a few hours.
