QCH mandates COVID-19 vaccine for all workers

August 24, 2021

Queensway Carleton Hospital is taking Ontario’s vaccine directive one step further and will be implementing mandatory vaccination for everyone who works at QCH, no matter their role.

Our team is naturally inclined to be vaccinated since it keeps them safe, keeps their families safe, and protects our patients – approximately 90% of staff and physicians at QCH have been fully vaccinated, with more proof of immunizations rolling in every day. Today’s additional step will provide some peace of mind to patients and families and help ensure we are using every available tool to keep them safe.

COVID-19 is still spreading, mainly among people who have not been vaccinated. The approved COVID vaccines are safe and work well. They will help your body fight off the virus and lowers your risk of being in hospital. They help keep people safe and stop the spread of the virus.

“Patients and caregivers shouldn’t have to worry about the vaccination status of the people around them when they come to QCH for care,” says Dr. Andrew Falconer, President and CEO of Queensway Carleton Hospital. “There are individuals within our community who are unable to get vaccinated due to their age or because of medical conditions. We provide care to some of the most vulnerable people in the region – this is the right thing to do.”

Queensway Carleton Hospital is expecting every member of QCH to be fully vaccinated by October 15, 2021, with the exception of those with a documented medical or other human rights exemption. QCH will be working with employees to provide education and support in getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

Everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated is encouraged to do so. You can book your appointment online through the provincial portal or walk into any of Ottawa’s community vaccine clinics between 10 am – 7 pm daily.
