Important Patient Portal Update


On October 13, we are launching significant new modules to our electronic health records system across the hospital. This is one step of many that the hospital is taking to improve the quality and safety of care for patients now and in the future. We understand you may have some questions, and we will try our best to answer them.

Why should I expect longer wait times in October?

Our team is working hard to prepare for and get used to this new system, which is why you may experience longer wait times than usual. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Are you diverting patients to other hospitals while the hospital’s electronic system is being upgraded?

No, we are still seeing patients in our Emergency Department and admitting patients as needed. We’ve been preparing for this system update for months, and we have protocols and processes in place to ensure we continue to provide safe, quality care to patients coming to the hospital during this period. You may however, experience longer wait times than usual.

Will this affect the quality of care I receive at QCH?

No. Our care team is well-trained for this and has been preparing for this implementation for months. It will, however, take some time for the team to adjust to everything being electronic. Rest-assured, this will in no way impact the quality of care you are receiving at QCH.

What should I expect when I come to the hospital after October 13?

When arriving at QCH, you can expect the same kind greeting and quality care. If you require admission to the hospital, you will receive a new armband that looks slightly different. With our new electronic health records system, the nurse is required to scan your armband each time they administer your medications.

Why are you making these changes now?

We have been slowly working towards moving electronically for three years and have rolled the project out in phases, with some phases being delayed due to the demands of the pandemic. Right now, we are currently operating in a "hybrid" model, where some patient documentation is still on paper, and others are electronic. By moving electronically, we are improving the safety of care.

Will I still have access to the Patient Portal when the hospital’s system is being updated?

Unfortunately, you will not have access to the Patient Portal during the upgrade. We are estimating the patient portal will be offline from 10:00 pm on October 12 and will be back online at approximately 9:00 pm on October 13.

Will this affect the COVID Care and Testing Centre on Moodie hours of operation?

Just a little bit. On October 13, the COVID Care and Testing Centre on Moodie will open one hour later at 9:00 am and close at 3:30 pm.

Please use the Ontario COVID-19 provincial portal to check for your test results as the Connected Care Patient Portal will be offline during the upgrade, beginning October 12 at 10:00 pm and will be back online at approximately 9:00 pm on October 13.

What if I have a clinic appointment or procedure that day?

If you are physically coming into QCH, your appointment or procedure will not be impacted. However, your appointment will be conducted via phone if you have a virtual appointment scheduled between 10:00 pm on October 12 and 9:00 pm on October 13.

As part of a broader move towards electronic health records, this Patient Portal will give you the ability to see your records 24/7, no matter where you are.

Your account will allow you to:

  • Attend Virtual Visit consultations
  • See lab results and medical reports
  • Medications prescribed at discharge
  • Visit and appointment history
  • Dates and details for scheduled appointments

Your personal information and health records will remain secure, and only accessible to yourself and anyone you choose to give access to.


To log in you will need to visit Connected Care and enter your user name and your password.

The Patient Portal is available in English, French, and Spanish. You can change the language of the Portal by clicking on the language button at the bottom of the home page.
