QCH ranked top hospital in Ottawa, #16 in Canada by Newsweek magazine
March 04, 2021
Queensway Carleton Hospital has been ranked first among Ottawa-area hospitals, and 16th nationally in Newsweek Magazine’s 'World’s Best Hospitals’ 2021 rankings released yesterday.
Newsweek, in partnership with Statista Inc., selected 2,000 international hospitals as part of their survey based on the recommendations of medical professionals, patient survey results, and medical key performance indicators (KPIs).
Queensway Carleton Hospital was ranked 16th in Canada and first in the Ottawa region, on a list that includes international institutions like the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, and the Cleveland Clinic, in addition to Canadian hospitals such as Toronto General Hospital, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and Montreal General Hospital.
“Being named the #1 hospital in the region is exciting,” says Dr. Andrew Falconer, President and CEO. “This shows how committed our staff are, by cultivating a culture that is friendly and inclusive. We put every patient first to ensure they receive safe, quality care.”
The Newsweek list was compiled by Statista Inc. who asked more than 74,000 medical experts in 25 countries to recommend the top institutions both in their own country, and internationally. These recommendations accounted for 55 per cent of the hospitals’ final score (50 per cent for domestic recommendations, 5 per cent for international), and were added to the patient survey results and the KPI’s – which were weighed at 15 and 35 per cent respectively – to rank the institutions.
