Wound and Chronic Disease Care at Queensway Carleton Hospital Celebrated by the Canadian Nurses Association for National Nursing Week
May 07, 2025
Ottawa, ON — Kimberly LeBlanc, President of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) visited Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) for an inspiring visit to kick-off the upcoming National Nursing Week and to celebrate QCH leadership and expertise in skin and wound care.
During the visit, Kimberly met with the QCH Wound Care team, led by Andrea Trainor. As an Advanced Practice Nurse in Chronic Diseases, Skin, Wound and Ostomy services, Andrea’s commitment to excellence has garnered national recognition and helped establish QCH as a leader in this specialized field.
Andrea and Kimberly share a long-standing connection through their contributions to national practice standards and their involvement with Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Canada (NSWOCC). Both have served on key clinical guideline taskforces and are recognized mentors and educators in the field. Their shared vision for innovation and excellence makes Kimberly’s visit a particularly special moment for the QCH team.
"Andrea brings extraordinary expertise and vision to QCH’s Chronic Disease and Wound Care programs," said Yvonne Wilson, Vice President of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Executive at QCH. "Her work not only strengthens care for our local community but also shapes national practice standards. She embodies everything we celebrate during National Nursing Week. It is very special for the QCH team to have this recognized by Kimberley Leblanc, a global nursing leader."
Andrea’s leadership and clinical contributions extend far beyond QCH. This May, she will present at the NSWOCC National Conference in Montreal — a leading event in the field. Andrea is also a co-author of an upcoming chapter in the Ostomy textbook for the Wound Ostomy Continence Institute. Her voice has been instrumental in shaping national nursing guidelines as a taskforce member on several other major publications. Andrea also mentors the next generation of clinical experts, ensuring continued excellence and innovation in the field.
In addition to the Wound Care team, Kimberly’s visit included meeting with several other QCH teams — Geriatrics, Clinical Externs, Educators, and the latest cohort of nursing students. She praised their dedication, innovation, and leadership in delivering high-quality patient care.
Kimberly also joined team huddles in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, and the A4 unit, offering words of encouragement and recognition for their continued commitment to excellence in nursing.
Her visit marked a meaningful start to National Nursing Week (May 12-18), celebrating the critical contributions of nurses at QCH and across Canada.
