Resuming Services Gradually at QCH

May 19, 2021

The Government of Ontario has lifted its “Directive 2”, which gives hospitals permission to begin the gradual ramp of non-urgent surgeries and procedures. This is good news for our patients and their care teams who are eager to help.

Hospitals from across the region are working together to address the backlog of surgeries as quickly and safely as possible.

As some key surgical staff are still working in ICUs and other areas, this will be a gradual ramp up. The availability of beds and skilled staff are the two biggest factors in how quickly we can tackle the surgical backlogs.

Care teams are reviewing each patient case and will re-schedule patients in order of priority according to their medical needs.

We are working together as a region to maximize beds, staffing, and surgical suites. A regional patient care strategy means that some patients may receive care at a different hospital than initially anticipated. Rest assured, regardless of where your care takes place in the region, patient safety is a top priority.

Hospitals appreciate the patience of support of this community.
