Position Summary:

Temporary Full-time for approximately one year
 

Responsibilities:

Ensures the delivery of professional nursing care by utilizing evidence based nursing practice and by:
Establishing, providing, and evaluating clinical nursing care to patients and familyDemonstrating critical thinking in the nursing process while collecting and interpreting data, planning, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing carePractising to the full scope of practice of the Registered Nurse within own level of competenceHas the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidence-based nursing practice that complies with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Nursing Practice, QCH Policies and Procedures as well as the standards of care appropriate to his/her area of clinical practice.Demonstrate QCH values: accountability, innovation, respect

Qualifications:

Registered with the College of Nurses of OntarioRN DiplomaCurrent BCLSMinimum of 5 years clinical nursing experience, including medicine, and/or chronic disease prevention and management experienceRecent diabetes related clinical experience in acute care setting including outpatient diabetes education experience, managing diabetes in the context of other chronic conditions, managing diabetes and pregnancyRecent experience with all diabetes treatment modalitiesExperience with initialization and managment of insulin pumpsExcellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skillsAbility to understand, interpret and carry out verbal and written instructions in the English language
Ability to work effectively within the nursing and inter-professional teamDemonstrated computer competencyPREFERRED: Certified as a diabetes educator Bachelor of Science in NursingMaster Degree in Nursing (candidates with a Masters degree in progress will be considered)Member of the Diabetes Educator Section of the Canadian Diabetes AssociationExperience with clinical documentation in an Electronic Health Record Membership in RNAO, certifications and associations related to nursing specialtyExperience as preceptor/mentor
